In the grand scheme of things these envelopes don't mean all that much. Nor do the contents within. They being a simple Christmas card from family friends. In this case Roxy and Preston of Washington, Pennsylvania. Whoever they may have been .I believe that they might have been cousins of Lucy but I'm not positive.
One thing of note on this envelope dated December 21, 1948 is the addition of "Westwood Hills" to the address of 1078 John Daly Road in Inkster. On many maps these neighborhood names are included even though most people don't even know the name of their subdivision. I know mine only because it is stated on numerous maps.
Westwood is notable for being in the vicinity of the Westwood Otto Inn which was both a dining establishment and music venue. I'm not certain where the name Westwood came from but it was used for a hundred or so years before everything seemingly became generic and subsumed under the name of the city or town one lives in, save for a few places such as Norwayne. Or maybe I'm just not aware of a wider usage but I rarely hear somebody refer to their neighborhood as being anything but located near such and such intersection.
